Photograph to be Affixed to Provisional Driver’s Licences
- in keeping with Amendments to the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act, Chapter 51:02
In keeping with the amendments made to the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act, Regulation No. 12 of 2008, the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) wishes to inform the general public that with effect from October 1, 2011, photographs will be affixed to Provisional Driver’s Licences.
A Provisional Licence can be purchased for a nominal fee of one thousand dollars ($1000.00) at the Licence Revenue Office, Smyth and Princess Streets, Georgetown and at other Certifying Offices in the various Regions. Persons should note that when applying for a Provisional Driver’s Licence, the following documents are required:
- Three (3) Passport sized photographs;
- Pass Letter (Learner’s Theoretical Programme) from Certifying Officer of the Guyana Police Force;
- Official Identification or Passport;
- Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN); and
- Completed Application Form for Provisional Driver’s Licence
Provisional Licences are generally issued to persons sixteen (16) years of age or older (for motor cycles) and seventeen (17) years or older (for motor vehicles) who are learning to drive motor vehicles on the roadways of Guyana.
In accordance with Section 26 of the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act, once issued, a Provision Licences is only valid for the period indicated on the licence. When the licence expires, the applicant is required to follow the same procedure to purchase a new Provisional Licence. Provisional Licence holders who have misplaced or damaged their licence must apply for a new licence, since no duplicates are issued by the GRA.
