The Auditor General’s report on the Public Accounts of Guyana for 2015 was today handed over by Auditor General, Deodat Sharma to Speaker of the National Assembly, Dr. Barton Scotland.

The Auditor General said that the report represented the seventh consecutive report being presented by the statutory deadline, September 30. He praised the staff of the Audit Office for their commitment to the process thereby ensuring the timeliness of the report.
According to Sharma, grant funding provided by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) was used to start the implementation of TeamMate. This is audit management software which enables the Audit Office to ensure the consistent preparation of high quality reports in keeping with international standards.
The software will also aid in the automation of working paper files, real time review of audit work, reduced the amount of paper files to be stored and allow for faster document retrieval.
Additionally, Sharma said the IDB, Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), the Indian Government and the Government of Guyana have all been instrumental in providing finances to strengthen the capacity of the Audit Office.
In brief remarks, Speaker of the National Assembly, Dr. Scotland congratulated the Auditor General for the timeliness of the report and encouraged the maintenance of submitting such reports in a timely manner.
The Audit report is an examination of spending by departments of government for the year 2015 and is to be laid before the National Assembly when it comes out of recess on October 10, 2016. The handing over of the 2015 Report took place at Parliament Buildings.
